using Stamped clayEssential Oil Diffusers will be crafted for use to be worn as a bracelet, necklace, car fresheners, or ornament, We will research design symbols from antiquity to use in creating a stamp for clay, creating a relief design, crafting the clay into a disk that can be strung onto string or leather laces. Students may add color to their diffusers.
Although these creations can be worn alone, usually an essential oil drop is added to diffuse a scent of choice! Essential Oil is a highly aromatic, concentrated oil that is distilled (most frequently by steam or water) from the leaves, needles, stems, flowers, bark, roots, or other highly aromatic plant parts. Although Essential Oils seem to be a new and very popular discovery, they are really not new. Historically, essential oils have played a prominent role in everyday life for centuries and are considered mankind’s first medicine. Research dates the use of essential oils back to 4,500 B.C. Ancient Egyptians were the first to discover the potential of fragrance, and records demonstrate that oils and aromatics were used to treat illnesses and perform rituals and religious ceremonies in temples and pyramids. In fact, three oils that are still commonly used today—cedar wood, myrrh, and frankincense—were used in the embalming process. The reintroduction of essential oils into modern medicine first began during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Since that time, essential oils have been used traditionally to kill harmful germs, as well as spiritually to balance mood, lift spirits, and dispel negative emotions. Used diluted, essential oils are used for aroma therapy and on the skin, even in tea. Our diffuser is would allow for an oil to slowly evaporate over time allowing the user to enjoy their favorite scent all day long. Creating a Stamp first will allow students to use their design over and over once it is crafted:Understanding the firing process of clay: www.lakesidepottery.com/HTML%20Text/Tips/Clay%20drying%20and%20firing%20process.htm |
